Football Federation Australia and the Korea Football Association today announced that the Socceroos will meet the Taeguk Warriors in an international friendly match at the Hwaseong Stadium, Hwaseong in the Korea Republic on Wednesday 14 November 2012.
This will be the 25th match between the Korea Republic and Australia at senior men’s international level after the team’s last met at the Al Gharafa Stadium in Doha, Qatar in the group phase of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2011 were they played out an enthralling 1-all draw.
Socceroos head coach Holger Osieck is looking to use the match the match against the Korea Republic to fine tune his team for the remainder of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Asian qualification campaign.
“This will be another important game as part of our preparation for the second phase of this round of qualifiers,” Osieck said. “We are now at the halfway mark and we need to focus on our remaining qualification matches.
“It’s always a challenge to face the Korea Republic, who are currently sitting at the top of their group, and the match will serve as a good comparison test for us.”
The Socceroos are currently ranked 34th in the FIFA World Rankings whilst the Korea Republic are currently 25th (as of 3 October 2012). Australia are currently in second position of Group B with a win against Iraq (2-1), draws against Oman (0-0) and Japan (1-1) and a loss to Jordan (1-2) at the half way point of the final round of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
The Korea Republic are at the top of Group A with wins against Qatar (4-1) and Lebanon (3-0), a draw against Uzbekistan (2-2) and a loss to Iran (0-1).
